Our Poconos Mini-Vacation!

Last week we spent two full days up in the Poconos at Shawnee Village Resort, gratefully taking advantage of Dayne’s grandparents’ timeshare. We went for some of the best weather we’ve had in the last month, which was fantastic. It was a bit chilly up in the mountains, making it truly feel like fall.

On Thursday, we went to a local grocery store to pick up food for our breakfasts and lunches, and we discovered a waterfall just down the road:

It was a lot bigger and louder than it looks in the picture. There was also a calmer waterfall to the right of that one, so we walked over this little bridge:

and up the hill exploring the two. I wore the worst shoes ever (see my feet above) so I didn’t go out on the rock that was sticking out into the falls, but Dayne did and said it was a very unique feeling being in the middle of the rushing water:

Later that day, we played miniature golf at the rec center, and it was pretty much my worst mini-golf performance ever. I think the course was rigged. Dayne won by 6.

We heard about a local microbrewery down the road at Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort, so we decided to check it out for dinner. It was called the Gem & Keystone Pub, and I had their blonde ale and greek salad. Dayne had steak and french-pressed coffee. It was delish, and a great atmosphere.

We watched Limitless that night in our cabin. Crazy movie.

The next day, we went to hike Bushkill Falls, a short drive from our resort. I was a little nervous, because I’m not good with steep trails, but we picked the second-longest trail and it was perfect weather for the hike. It was actually relatively flat except for the gorge where the main falls were, where there were some steep stairs. Here are some photos from our hike:

We had made reservations for the Shawnee Playhouse’s “Meal & Show” that night, so we cleaned up after the hike and went back to the Gem & Keystone for our dinner (which included a huge brownie sundae dessert). Afterwards, we killed some time at the cabin before the play began at 8. The Shawnee Playhouse is a really small, intimate historic building. We saw Postmortem, which was truly a bizarre play, but it was fun to see together.

On Saturday, we had to drive back. It was so lovely getting away together and having some real refreshing quality time just the two of us, seeing and doing new things. It was perfectly the right time, in the midst of all we’ve been going through with our jobs, finances, and house search. However, it was nice to come home. Life picked up again immediately, as it always does — but after our little retreat in the mountains, we were ready for it!

Thursday Night Vacation Update.

So much has been going on that I only have time for a random, quick post!

I am on vacation – the girls are away with their parents for a long weekend – and I am sooooooooo happy. I felt noticeably lighter tonight than I have in a long time. Possibly because the weather is getting better and I got to spend time with two of my favorite people tonight!

Amy came over to make a twine ball with me.

Let me just say that I have never considered myself creative, or craft-y, or gifted with too many feminine traits. Dayne’s mom is AWESOME at these things, and she has been such a help with making samples of napkin rings, twine balls, favors, etc. Then I try to copy what she did, and it turns out looking very… Lisa-like.

To prove my point, here is the twine ball that Deb made (along with the shepherd’s hook she found for $1… how does she do that?!) and we decorated together:

Looks pretty, right? 🙂 I’m just gonna have to get more of Deb’s help until I become less inept at crafting.

This also happened tonight while Amy was playing around with the camera on her new iPhone… I love moments captured in time like this:

And this verse came to mind tonight and I liked it, especially the Amplified version:

Isaiah 26:3: “You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.” (emphasis mine… I want to work on doing these things [especially leaning on Him] and attaining that perfect & constant peace!)

Also, PUPPY!:

My family got the cutest dog and dogs are the best, right?! He is such a little angel. I wuv him. (Can you already hear me asking, “Dayne, can we get a dog?” Because it’s happening. Sooner than later.)
