My Newfound Obsession with Thrift Stores

I just want to know why it took me so long to discover thrift stores. I had so much luck with clothes yesterday for so little money, I was wondering why I ever thought Old Navy was cheap. Or the outlets. Because guess what? They’re not!

Kay (see above) is my knightess in shining armor, because she took me to two amazing places yesterday – The Trading Post (a thrift store in Paoli where all the proceeds go to Fox Chase Cancer Center) and Chic & Simple (a thrift store in Berwyn which specializes in resale). I found two pairs of semi-casual brown pants by GAP and Talbot’s at The Trading Post for just $10. There were other treasures there that I would have loved to look through were it not closing time (4:00).

Chic & Simple had a wonderful selection (and some beautiful vintage furniture and dishware), but was slightly pricier than The Trading Post. I was able to look past the higher price tags (higher price tags = in the $30 range) and found some great layering pieces for work in the $10-15 range: a purple sleeveless turtleneck by Puli, a brown long-sleeve sweater jacket by Elie Tahari (!), a deep turquoise layering vest by Nine West, and a dressier ruched gray t-shirt by Ann Taylor. Here’s all my loot:

I still need some more clothes and shoes for work, so I have a growing list of places I want to go: back to the two places we went yesterday, as well as Plato’s Closet, TJMaxx, and Goodwill.

Where’s your favorite place to shop for deals? Any shopping tips?

I love Jesus, I have a lot of flaws, and I'm seeking a life of abundant joy. That sums it up pretty nicely, actually.

  1. Cute stuff! This is a great idea. I’m obsessed with Nordstrom and I spend so much money there! I’m sure I could find similar pieces at thrift stores and save a lot of money. Yay for killer deals on new clothes!
